Zotero labels

My system to label article in the reference manager:

By academic field

  • statistics
  • economics
  • econometrics
  • sociology
  • industrial relations (incl. collective bargaining)
  • ,,,
This could be automated, based on the journal.

By topic

  • wage curve
  • wage norm
  • inequality (incl. dispersion)
  • wage
  • income
This is generally in the keywords.

By focus

  • gender
  • age (incl. youth, elderly)
  • Belgium
  • Europe
  • Great Recession
  • ...
In other words: population, location, time period.

By kind

  • Empirical
  • Theoretical
  • Literature overview
  • Meta-analysis
  • Review or comment
  • Grey literature (annual reports, technical papers, discussion papers, working papers, etc.)
The label grey is not really necessary: if the article is classified as 'report', it means grey. Often, however, those publications contain a mixture of approaches.

By quality

  • Classic (e.g. seminal)
  • Good
  • Bad
  • To do
At first, they're all 'to do', then just good or bad, or classic if it is a necessary reference in the strand of research.
